Classification of Stamping Processes
Stamping parts are mainly classified by process, into two main categories: separation processes and forming processes.
The separation process, also known as blanking, aims to separate the stamped part from the sheet metal along a specific contour line while ensuring the quality requirements of the separated section.
The forming process aims to plastically deform the sheet metal without breaking the blank, producing a workpiece of the required shape and size.
In actual production, multiple processes are often combined for a single workpiece. Blanking, bending, shearing, deep drawing, bulging, spinning, and straightening are some of the main stamping processes.
